what is sound healing

History of Sound Healing

The use of sound healing to promote healing and wellbeing has existed for as long as humanity has records.

The first known use of music as a healing force comes from the Australian Aborigines who are known to have used the didgeridoo, the oldest carbon dated instrument on earth, as a healing tool for more than 40,000 years.

Ancient Egyptians utilized sound healing, pyramids were designed to create sound chambers to amplify and echo the vibrations of sounds.

The Greeks were also known to use music to heal. Pythagoras is usually credited as a mathematician but he was also known as the Father of Music. He discovered the beauty of harmonic intervals as a mathematical concept, bringing together the idea of certain sounds creating a pure and understandable sensation that could create "Soul Adjustments".

In 1896, American doctors first found a connection between sound and healing when they noted that music could improve blood flow and improve thought processes. Music therapy was also used during the 1940s to rehabilitate soldiers returning from WWII.

From Tibetan singing bowls, shamanic drums, vocal chanting, and so much more, there's a form of sound healing to be found in every culture worldwide and throughout history.

The Science Behind Sound Healing

If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies. There is no organ system in the body that is not affected by sound, music and vibration. You can look at disease as a form of disharmony.  ~ Dr Mitchell Gaynor

Sound will be the medicine of the future. ~ Edgar Cayce

You are a living energy field. Your body is composed of energy-producing particles, each of which is in constant motion. So, like everything and everyone else in the universe, you are vibrating and creating energy.

Those vibrations happen in your body. Inside each one of your cells, molecules are vibrating at different rates. Each organ's cells collaboratively vibrate synchronistic frequencies. However, each organ vibrates differently than other organs.

Using atomic force microscopes, researchers have detected vibrations on the nanoscale — much smaller than 1/1000th the diameter of a single human hair.

These vibrations generate electromagnetic waves. Researchers have found that vibrations and the electromagnetic energy associated with them cause changes in your cells, which can then affect how your body functions. Molecule vibration rates can speed up or slow down if conditions around the molecules change, generating symptoms of emotional, physical, and mental behaviors.

So if these molecules are out of sync with the rest, that part of the body may become, or already be, dis-eased.

Sound can carry light into our cells (light is vibrations afterall) therefore the capacity to synchronize, resonate, harmonize, rebalance, entrainment, and correct our body's molecular frequencies empowers wellness and health and harmony to our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual selves.

“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it, Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics. ~ Albert Einstein

Spiritually Speaking

Sound is the force of creation, the true whole. Music then, becomes the voice of the great cosmic oneness and therefore the optimal way to reach this final state of healing. ~ Hazrat Inayat Khan

Sound healing helps the mind and body to slow down, allowing us to quiet our conscious mind to be able to reconnect to our inner being and the universe, tuning our energy to the dial of health, well-being, love, presence, peace, joy, abundance, gratitude, confidence, courage, stability, safety, worthiness, prosperity, wealth, winning, whatever your heart desires.

Divine sound is the cause of all manifestation. The knower of the mystery of sound knows the mystery of the whole universe. ~ Hazrat Inayat Khan

It is our work to match up our energy to the frequency and vibration of all that we are asking for.  That is the frequency of manifestation. Setting intentions to hold that space throughout the sound healing meditation will carry you to the frequency of energy your heart desires.
